 Creighton University Goes Tobacco Free

Creighton University will be tobacco-free on July 1, 2008. Many faculty and staff members have taken advantage of the Commit to Quit tobacco-cessation programs, and pharmaceutical discounts for cessation medications. Seminars, presentations, an informational website and a student interactive tobacco-cessation website are helping to provide support. An additionalset of Commit to Quit programs were added last week.

The University’s dining services, Sodexho, will feature “cold turkey” sub sandwiches with a free 20 ounce fountain beverage on July 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wareham Court in the Skutt Student Center to recognize the campus kick-off date. The first 150 Creighton community members who order the sub will get their sandwich free. There will be a table in the CUMC lobby to provide sign-up information on free smoking cessation classes along with free cookies and bottled water. Creighton’s vendors and contractors have also been notified of the change and letters have been distributed to neighboring businesses. Signage will appear near parking facilities, doorways to buildings and throughout campus in July.

More information on the University's efforts can be found on this website.

Fact of The WeekTasty!!

Once you stop using tobacco products, your blood pressure, pulse rate and skin temperature will return to normal within 20 minutes. Within eight hours, high levels of carbon monoxide in your blood will return to normal and, within a few weeks, your circulation will improve, your sense of taste and smell will improve, and you will have fewer colds and more energy.

Success Stories

"Thanks to everyone's assistance, I have been able to stay away from nicotine. All of the counselors were extremely helpful and supportive.

Without the program, I probably would not have been successful in quitting. Thanks for your help!" -Commit to Quit Participant
